SEAHEARTS: Accelerating prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases in the South-East Asia Region

Progress report

Overview

The SEAHEARTS Progress Report provides a detailed account of progress made in implementing Resolution ‘SEAHEARTS – Accelerating Prevention and Control of Cardiovascular Diseases in the WHO South-East Asia Region (SEA/RC76/R5’). It provides an in-depth analysis of the progress up to December 2024 of the four regional milestones of the Resolution on scaling up protocol-based management for hypertension and diabetes, strengthening tobacco control, reducing population salt intake, and eliminating industrially produced trans-fats.  The data presented are submissions by the Member States based on the SEAHEARTS Monitoring Framework.

The report also documents the progress of the mandate under SEAHEARTS resolution to the Secretariat. This first progress report provides a comprehensive overview of the catalytic policy and clinical interventions implemented by countries in line with SEAHEARTS milestones. It also highlights good practices, implementation challenges, and areas for regional collaboration and learning. Given the significant progress on three of the four milestones and the continued implementation of the SEAHEARTS roadmaps at subnational and national levels, the Region is likely to remain on track to reach the SEAHEARTS milestones 2025. This progress report will serve as an impetus for Member States to refine their plans and navigate the challenges, aligning with the best practices across the countries to further accelerate the responses for collective success.
