A/Prof Olga Perovic
Biography
Professor Olga Perovic is Principal Pathologist at the Centre for Healthcare Associated Infections, Antimicrobial Resistance and Mycoses (CHARM); she is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and Head of WHO Collaborating Centre for AMR.
Antimicrobial resistance has been Olga Perovic major fields of expertize and interest. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing and their clinical applications have involved her in implementation of antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship programs at the hospital level. She initiated and established new national surveillance for antimicrobial resistance for nosocomial pathogens at NICD GERMS surveillance program.
Prof. Perovic is:
- Member of Strategic and Technical Advisory Group (STAG) on AMR at World Health Organization and member of Global Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System GLASS at WHO.
- Member of Ministerial Advisory Committee (MAC) on AMR at National Department of Health.
- Member of Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership (GARP) in South Africa.
- Country commitments in AMR action package for SA in Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA).
- Chair of National Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (NAC).
She published in more than 50 per-reviewed journals, number of book chapters and she supervised masters and PhD students.
