Road Safety is No Accident Symposium

The Romanian Institute for Human Rights, in collaboration with the Ministry of Administration and Internal Affairs, the National Authority for the Handicapped and the Romanian Association for the United Nations, hosted a Road Safety is No Accident symposium to mark World Health Day. The opening address was given by Prof. Dr Irina Moroianu Zlătescu, Director of the Romanian Institute for Human Rights, and there were greeting addresses on behalf of the Chamber of Deputies' Commission on human rights, cults and national minorities issues and the Senate's Commission on human rights and minorities. A message from the WHO Director-General, Dr LEE Jong-wook, was also featured. Reports were presented on Traffic accidents – a world neglected occult epidemics, by Dr Octavian Popescu, Romanian Association for the United Nations; Protection of the population health by preventing traffic accidents. Elements of the strategy for highroad and national road safety in the period 2004-2007, by Mr Alexandru Mircea, Secretary of State with the Ministry of Administration and Internal Affairs; Handicapped victims of traffic accidents, by Mr Florian Sălăjeanu, Secretary of State, President of the National Authority for the Handicapped; and Redress of the prejudices caused by traffic accidents, by Prof. Dr Monna Lisa Belu-Magdo, judge with the High Court of cassation and Justice, member of IDEF.
