MDG Momentum - 1000 days of action until the 2015 target date for the MDGs
On 5 April, the UN and partners worldwide will observe the 1,000-day mark to the 2015 target date for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are the most successful global anti-poverty push in history. Governments, international organizations and civil society groups around the world have helped to cut in half the world’s extreme poverty rate. Fewer mothers and children are dying. The world continues to fight killer diseases, such as malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS. There are NOW, 1,000 days to accelerate action on saving more lives of mothers and children, increasing targeted investments in health and improving access to health services. We take the opportunity to encourage our members and partners around the world to accelerate their efforts in promoting and advocating for health workers, who are the backbone of a well-functioning health system.
As part of MDG momentum, some of our members are organizing twitter chats around the health workforce - we invite you to “follow” them and hear what they have to say.

The week of April 8 is World Health Worker Week! They are caretakers. They are educators. They are your neighbors, friends, and family. They are on the front lines every day. We’d like to request you to celebrate health workers next week and show the world just how much health workers count - a small effort by you can go a long way in motivating this vital workforce. You can issue a statement on the importance of health workers, talk to the media, post a health worker testimonial on your website OR get loads more ideas from this “World Health Workers Week Toolkit” developed by the Frontline Health Workers Coalition in partnership with us at the Global Health Workforce Alliance and number of other members and partners.
We encourage you to use MDG Momentum and World Health Workers Week to accelerate HRH actions towards the 2015 target date for the MDGs - to ensure that all people everywhere have access to a skilled, motivated and supported health worker.
