Global Forums on Human Resources for Health

The Alliance convened the First and the Second Global Forums on Human Resources for Health, in 2008 in Uganda, and 2011 in Thailand respectively. The Global Forums brought together key experts, fellow champions as well as frontline health workers around the common goal of improving the human resources for health to achieve the health related Millennium Development Goals.

Both Forums concluded with the adoption from committed participants of ambitious agendas suitable to translate political will, leadership and partnership into sustainable and effective actions.

Second Global Forum on Human Resources for Health

Reviewing progress, renewing commitments to health workers towards MDGs and beyond

The Second Global Forum was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 25 - 29 January 2011. Jointly convened by the Alliance, the Prince Mahidol Award Conference, the World Health Organization and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Second Forum was a highpoint on the road from Kampala. More than 1 000 participants from 105 countries came together to review progress and renew committments to health workers.

First Global Forum on Human Resources for Health

Action on the Health Workforce - THE TIME IS NOW

The Alliance convened the first-ever Global Forum on Human Resources for Health from 2 -7 March 2008. Over 1 500 participants came together in Kampala, Uganda, to share experiences of what is and isn’t working in the response to the health workforce crisis and to build networks, consensus and capacity. Participants at the First Global Forum endorsed the Kampala Declaration and Agenda for Global Action, a historic roadmap laying out key actions required at international, regional, national and local levels to improve human resources for health over the next ten years.
