134th Executive Board of the WHO Endorses the Recife Political Declaration on Human Resources for Health

Renewed commitments towards universal health coverage

In a fantastic move for the HRH community, the recently concluded 134th Executive Board session of the WHO passed a resolution supporting the implementation of the Recife Political Declaration on Human Resources for Health: renewed commitments towards universal health coverage

Having considered the outcome document of the 3rd Global Forum on Human Resources for Health, which was held from10-13 November 2013, in Recife, Brazil and reaffirming the importance of the Kampala Declaration and the Agenda for Global Action, as well as the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel, the Executive Body endorsed the call to action and welcomed the commitments made by Member States in the “Recife Political Declaration on Human Resources for Health: renewed commitments towards universal health coverage, with a view to progressing towards universal health coverage. The Executive Body urged Member States to implement, as appropriate, and in accordance with national and sub-national responsibilities, the commitments made in the “Recife Political Declaration on Human Resources for Health: renewed commitments towards universal health coverage”. The Body also requested the Director General to take this Political Declaration into consideration for the future work of the WHO.
