Background
The Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality Working Group meeting (Geneva, 2004) expressed concern that different guideline values for chemicals are being derived based on the same study because of the use of different assumptions and inputs for the linearized multistage model. In a related matter, CAC held an expert consultation in September 2004 on dose–response modelling in general, to determine if there is any scientific consensus on the use of the models for chemicals.

The Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality Working Group meeting (Geneva, 2004) agreed to a plan of work. The Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality Working Group meeting (Geneva, 2005) revised the plan of work.
