Road safety mass media campaign launched in Turkey

As part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Road Safety Programme, WHO has supported the Government of Turkey to develop a mass media campaign to prevent speeding on Turkey's roads. Launched on 5 December, the campaign "Think About Consequences, Slow Down Your Speed" includes television commercials, radio messages and outdoor and indoor print-ads on billboards and buses.

According to the Global status report on road safety 2013, more than 8700 people lose their lives in road traffic crashes in Turkey each year. Speeding is considered one of the main risk factors for fatal crashes.

There is extensive evidence from around the world that road safety campaigns complemented by the strict enforcement of laws can dramatically decrease reckless behaviour on the roads.
