Preparations for World suicide report underway
On 4-6 June WHO convened a planning meeting in Geneva, Switzerland for the first ever World suicide report.
Participants included some of the world's foremost experts on understanding and preventing suicide. Discussions focused on the proposed structure and content of the report including the epidemiology of suicide; the evidence base for suicide prevention; and the development of national suicide prevention policies and programmes.
It is planned to publish the report in September 2014.The project is being led by the WHO Department of Mental Health and Substance Dependence, with support from the WHO Department of Violence and Injury Prevention and Disability.
