The first edition of this book was published by WHO and UNICEF in 1996. In the intervening years, much has happened in the field of vaccines and immunization. WHO, UNICEF and the World Bank have now produced a second version that makes a line in the sand - this is where we are. There is some good news and some not-so-good news. It identifies the hopes for the future, and some of the gaps that need to be bridged before the world is free from vaccine-preventable diseases. On behalf of children everywhere, the report advocates for a number of crucial steps that are needed to take the responsible world community forward to the next stage.
