EMERGENCIES

 

Responding to an emergency

  • provide technical advice to the lead units (EHA) as required.
  • promotes the use of appropriate vaccines as an emergency response. For example, see PAHO's Scientific Publication No. 420 "Epidemiological Surveillance after Natural Disasters" pages 56-58.
  • provide technical support to facilitate confirming the diagnosis in an outbreak, and advise on the appropriate response
  • provide short term technical assistance including:

- participating in a rapid assessment of the situation

- participating in EHA task forces

- participate in outbreak investigation

  • collect epidemiological data during and after the emergency and provide epidemiological support for analysis of the cause of an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease.
  • promote the move to normalize immunization activities and MCH services as soon as possible.
