WHO high-level meeting for Eurasian countries on tobacco taxation

The World Health Organization (WHO) held a high-level meeting for Eurasian countries on tobacco taxation bringing together high-level officials from Finance, Customs and Health from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russian Federation and Ukraine. The meeting gathered more than 30 participants in Geneva, Switzerland on 28-29 November 2012. The purpose of this meeting was to bring together officials from Eurasian Economic Commission (Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia) plus Ukraine to discuss their views on tobacco taxation and their concerns in increasing taxes. Issues of concern such as illicit trade, industry consolidation and tobacco tax administration were discussed within the regional context and country best practices were reviewed.
