Tobacco Free Initiative (TFI)

Country engagements

WHO has been collaborating closely with the Ministries of Finance of a number of countries from around the world to review thoroughly existing practices in excise tobacco taxation. The main purpose of this collaborative work is to explore ways to configure tax policy and administration so that revenue collection can be improved and consumption can be reduced through tax and price increases. This work was initiated in 2009 and has been expanding every year since then to an increasing number of countries.
