WHO HQ World No Tobacco Day 2006 activities
Wednesday 31 May 2006
Geneva, Switzerland
You are cordially invited to an awards ceremony and lunch-time seminar on World No Tobacco Day. See a special exposition of student artworks and find out about snus, "hubblie-bubblies," the next generation of cigarettes and the tobacco industry's chronology of deception.
Did you know that:
- the tobacco industry continues to develop new products, and disguise old ones, to maintain their customers and attract new ones?
- the only difference between "light" / "mild" cigarettes and regular cigarettes is a few tiny holes in the filter?
- during half an hour of waterpipe smoking one can inhale up to 5 litres of toxic, nicotine-filled smoke (approximately 20 times as much inhaled smoking a cigarette)?
- ALL tobacco products contain carcinogens and toxins that are harmful to the human body, and can be deadly
Just before the seminar, Dr Anders Nordström, Acting Director-General, will host a short ceremony near the Carlson Wagonlit office, officially opening an exposition of students' artworks depicting the health dangers of tobacco. The exposition continues at WHO HQ through the week.
