Ecohealth research applications
New book available on innovative uses of an ecosystem approach to health
A new book on ecohealth research applications provides case studies from around the world from agriculture, natural resource management, community building and disease prevention. Published by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, the book shows how ecohealth research works and how it has led to lasting impact.
The chair of TDR’s Scientific and Technical Review Committee, Professor Mario-Henry Rodriguez, called the book “inspirational” in his foreword to the publication.
Dr Johannes Sommerfeld, who is one of the TDR scientists in the TDR unit on Vectors, Environment and Society,” and former TDR staff Dr Olaf Horstick, were contributors to the book. Their chapter article was co-authored by the principal investigators of the TDR/IDRC research programme on “Eco-Bio-Social Research on Dengue in Asia”, which was recently completed and resulted in the formation of an Asian Ecohealth network.
IDRC’s Ecosystems and Human health (“Ecohealth”) Program is led by Dr Dominique Charron, the editor of the book. TDR and IDRC have been collaborating since 2003 on ecohealth research related to vector-borne diseases in Asia and Latin America.
