China has a long standing commitment to control tuberculosis (TB) as evidenced by a 10-fold increase in financing for TB control since 2001 and achieving the Global Stop TB targets since 2005.
As one of the countries with a serious MDR-TB epidemic, China has also started to address this issue by placing it high on the health agenda and starting innovative pilot projects to address MDR-TB. China can play a leading role in the global fight against tuberculosis.
China is the largest country in Asia with a population of about 1.3 billion. Beijing is both a tribute to China's proud history and a gateway to China's future. The capital city during the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Beijing has long been the political, cultural, and diplomatic center of China. It is now an international metropolis, home to 11 million people from all walks of life.
