Guidelines for surveillance of drug resistance in tuberculosis
This fourth edition of the WHO Guidelines for surveillance of drug resistance in tuberculosis presents up-to-date guidance on the design and implementation of setting-specific surveys and surveillance systems to measure the burden and trends of drug-resistant tuberculosis. The guidelines address recent advancements in drug susceptibility testing, including testing for second-line drugs and the use of rapid diagnostics. The document also presents strengthened guidance on data management and analysis, ethical considerations in surveys and surveillance of drug resistance, and investigation of associations between anti-tuberculosis drug resistance and HIV-infection and other risk factors.
Supplementary materials to the guidelines:
Script for use in analysis of data: This script in Stata (http://www.statacorp.com) analyzes a sample cluster survey dataset using methods for multiple imputation of missing data and logistic regression with robust errors, to account for sampling design effects. Surveillance of Drug Resistance in Tuberculosis (SDRTB4) software: A programme designed to assist the process of collection and analysis of data on drug resistance in tuberculosis. Note: this software may not be used for analysis when a cluster sampling design was used, or when a significant amount of data was missing in the course of a survey.

Multidrug and extensively drug-resistant TB (M/XDR-TB): 2010 global report on surveillance and response
This new report on anti-tuberculosis (TB) drug resistance by the World Health Organization (WHO) updates “Anti-tuberculosis drug resistance in the world: Report No. 4”, published by WHO in 2008. It summarizes the latest data and provides latest estimates of the global epidemic of multidrug and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (M/XDR-TB). For the first time, this report includes an assessment of the progress countries are making to diagnose and treat MDR-TB cases.
