Consultation meeting to strengthen the active engagement of civil society organizations in the global TB prevention, care and control efforts

The Stop TB Department of the World Health Organization organized a consultation meeting with selected civil society organizations on 30 September - 1 October, 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland. The objective of the meeting was to exchange experiences and innovative ways of working together to advance the global TB prevention, care and control efforts. The meeting was chaired by Dr Mario Raviglione, Director of the Stop TB Department, WHO, and was attended by more than 70 participants representing 39 organizations. The meeting involved plenary presentations and interactive discussions in round tables, and highlighted best practices, experiences, challenges and solutions for strengthened involvement of civil society organizations in the TB prevention, care and control activities at global, national and local levels. Critical areas and practical suggestions to strengthen the collaboration of civil society organizations with WHO at all levels in order to facilitate the implementation of evidence-based policies were identified.
