Objectives of the meeting and expected outcome
Objectives
- To review the status of TB control and DOTS expansion in the world.
- To identify and discuss constraints of the 22 high burden countries (HBCs) in achieving the 2005 targets and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and discuss solutions and activities to be implemented in 2005, the last year for corrective and innovative actions for achieving the global TB targets.
- To review the national laboratory systems and networks and develop a plan to strengthen laboratories.
- To discuss collaboration with other health care providers, including public-private mix, public-public mix, TB control in the workplace, community TB, etc.
- To present and discuss the Intensified Support & Action country (ISAC) initiative.
Expected outcome
Up-to-date plan to support country activities for DOTS expansion outlining needed action by countries and their international partners to reach the 2005 targets.
