Regional workshop-Support to the single TB and HIV concept note development, Global Fund new funding model in Eastern and Southern Africa

In October 2013, the Global Fund announced its decision requiring high TB and HIV burden countries to submit a single TB and HIV concept note for funding requests beginning in 2014. To this effect, a regional workshop for 15 countries eligible for single HIV and TB concept notes was held on 17-19 February 2014 at Johannesburg in South Africa.

The workshop was organized by UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Eastern and Southern Africa Region and the interagency working group of the Global Fund consisting of WHO, Stop TB Partnership, UNAIDS, PEPFAR, Global Fund, in collaboration with UNICEF. The workshop aimed to share with country partners, guidance regarding the joint HIV and TB programming and to enhance understanding about requirements concerning the submission of a single TB and HIV concept note. The participants included stakeholders from following 15 countries: Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, and Zambia representing the Country Coordinating Mechanisms (CCMs), Ministry of Health (national TB and HIV programmes), country and regional civil society, and technical partners.

The workshop discussed the joint HIV and TB programming and its implications for single TB and HIV concept note. Participants shared their perspectives in the plenary and group work sessions. At the conclusion countries presented revised roadmaps that identified key steps in joint HIV and TB programming and development of single TB and HIV concept note including technical assistance needs.
