Management of substance abuse

Project aims

The aim of the project was to contribute to prevention and reduction of substance use and abuse of psychoactive substances among young people through community mobilization and the development of good practices in the area of primary prevention.

The project strategy

The strategy of the project was to support local partners in mobilizing their communities through; provision of technical advice, contacts, funding in selected cases, development and dissemination of good practices. Most of the activities took place at community level. Evidence shows that activities that influence the environment where young people spend most of their time, such as the schools and homes are most effective hence the thrust on community mobilization as an appropriate means to community-based initiatives.

Expected results

  • Improvement in substance related problems among young people
  • Improved awareness of adverse effects
  • A pool of experienced community workers
