WHO and the Department of Health (England, UK) held a meeting to explore how to make the political case for financing tackling the social determinants of health (SDH) to improve health equity. The meeting was attended by representatives from Canada, Chile and the UK, the Commission for the Social Determinants of Health, European Commission, OECD, WHO Finance Task Group members, and WHO Investment for Health and Development as well as invited experts.
The aim of the meeting was to identify the opportunities that exist for taking the work on SDH forward and barriers to making the political case for financing the determinants of health.
Recommended actions
Participants in the meeting agreed on set of recommended actions to implement in order to advance the work on SDH at the policy level in countries (see below).
