From Bangkok to Mexico. The experiences of the International Health Research Awardees on linking research evidence to health decision-making

Ten research groups working in low and middle-income countries were awarded International Health Research Awards at the Bangkok Conference on Health Research for Development in 2000. The Awards, supported by the Rockefeller Foundation and administered by the World Health Organization, enabled them to explore alternative ways of harnessing largely untapped resources in their countries to generate and apply knowledge to improve people's health and address inequalities.

Their approaches are compared and their collective experiences summarised in a paper that the representatives of the ten awardees wrote together. As an outcome of their reflections together, the ten research groups have also put out a CALL to the policy makers and donors to consider changing their approach to health research (see page 23 of the document).
