A Systematic review of the health complications of female genital mutilation including sequelae in childbirth
The immediate aim of the systematic review is to identify primary data on health complications of FGM, with particular emphasis on sequelae in childbirth, including psychosexual outcomes.
The longer-term aim of the systematic review is to use this information for a number of purposes, including identification of outcome measures of complications of FGM for studies to quantify the risk attributable to FGM at each stage in the life cycle; identification of country-specific and ethnic group-specific outcome measures of FGM that can be used to provide focus to optimise health-care provision of such complications; and identification of sites worldwide where opportunities exist for research into the health sequelae of FGM.
