Health system financing - Key to universal coverage

On November 22nd 2010, Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization, has launched the latest World Health Report 2010 in Berlin. On this occasion, the German Federal Government, together with the WHO Director-General and Ministers from all six WHO regions, organized the International Conference “Health Systems Financing – Key to Universal Coverage”. More than 300 participants from over 50 countries including 36 ministers discussed strategies to increase social health protection and to overcome challenges on the path towards universal coverage.

Providing for Health - Open Forum - 23 November 2010

Following the Ministerial Conference, on November 23rd, the partners of the P4H Initiative invited to an Open Forum. Around 70 high-ranking participants representing bi- and multilateral organizations, non-governmental organizations, academia, NGOs and the private sector joined the forum to learn about the objectives and working modalities of the P4H network and to review experiences to strengthen international cooperation in the area of social health protection. Representative of Ministries of Health of selected countries - Kenya, Cambodia, Nepal and Uganda – shared their experiences in working with P4H and future development assistance needs. Representatives of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the UK Department for international Development shared their organization's interest in joining P4H. The event was hosted by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and facilitated by GIZ.
