The Partnership for Maternal Newborn and Child Health co-organized a side event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland with Johnson&Johnson, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FSG consultancy group and the United Nations Foundation to bring together global industry leaders and key international organization heads in a dynamic discussion on a private sector engagement guide which is being developed in support of the Every Woman, Every Child effort. The discussions identified what information companies need to grow their business to improve women´s and children´s health and provided essential feedback to strengthen this draft guide to supply such information and catalyze new initiatives.
Scott Ratzan, co-chair of the Global Strategy’s Innovation Working Group and Vice President of Global Health at Johnson & Johnson moderated this discussion. The General Manager of Intel´s World Ahead Program, John Davies, and Executive Vice-Presidents of Becton Dickinson, Gary Cohen, shared examples of their commitments to health and the successes and challenges they have faced to incorporate shared values and business models to accelerate women and children’s health in a global company.
Industry leaders such as Hewlett Packard´s Director of Global Health, Merck´s Vice President of Global Public and Corporate Responsibility, Royal DSM Managing Board of Directors member, Fenton Communications´ Chief Strategy Officer and Mickinsey & Co´s UK Director deliberated on the strengths and weaknesses of this guide with key organization heads such as World Vision International, President and CEO, Save the Children, Director, Assistant Director General for Family Health at WHO and members of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This pioneering guide provided a unique opportunity for companies, organization and countries to come together to discuss ways in which companies can contribute through partnerships, focused investments, shared value and collective impact to open new avenues for sustainable healthcare provisions and business models to improve the health of women and children.
The discussions identified what companies need to grow their business and improve women and children´s health, as well as identifying how this guide assists in catalyzing such initiatives.
The next step of the guide will incorporate the feedback that was provided during this event and is to be finalized in March. Several companies identified how their company can become involved and engage in these next steps.
Once finalized, the Guide will transition into the next phase of country level implementation for businesses to lead the way through focused investments, transformative business models, collective impact and shared value to open new avenues for sustainable healthcare provisions for women and children.
