The Lancet launches new nutrition series
Spotlight on national and global progress ahead of 2013 G8 Summit
6 JUNE 2013 — Maternal and child undernutrition was the subject of a series of papers published in The Lancet in 2008. Five years later, a new series has re-evaluated the problems of maternal and child undernutrition, and has also examined the growing number of overweight and obese women and children, reporting on the consequences in low-income and middle-income countries. Many of these countries are said to have the double burden of malnutrition: continued stunting of growth and deficiencies of essential nutrients along with the emerging issue of obesity. This new series, published ahead of the 2013 G8 Summit in the United Kingdom, also assesses national progress in nutrition programmes and international efforts toward previous recommendations.
