Conference: Call to Action - Child Survival and Development for Every Child in India
7-9 FEBRUARY 2013 | CHENNAI, INDIA
Agenda and photos
Ministers from central and state governments, leaders from the private sector, civil society, media and multilateral organizations, academia and funding agencies gathered in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu for a follow-up summit to last year’s Global Child Survival Call to Action: A Promise to Keep meeting in Washington D.C., which was hosted by the governments of India and Ethiopia with USAID and UNICEF. This national event to end preventable deaths of children under five provided a platform for India to launch a new roadmap for accelerating child survival and development in the near future and beyond 2015 entitled a “Strategic Approach to Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health” (RMNCH+A).
The event followed on the heels of last month’s Africa Leadership for Child Survival meeting in Addis Ababa, where 20 African countries agreed on their own set of targets for child survival. Many PMNCH members were in attendance, along with PMNCH Director Carole Presern, who delivered a presentation on the private sector's role in child survival.
