Country CSOs meet to discuss RMNCH advocacy and collaboration
13 JUNE 2012 - WASHINGTON DC –
Civil society organizations (CSOs) working to strengthen coalitions of national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) advocacy met in Washington DC to exchange experiences. Representatives came from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ethiopia, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania as part of PMNCH support to strengthen advocacy for national, regional and global RMNCH commitments and achievement of related goals.
The PMNCH programme of support for national advocacy coalitions provides catalytic funding that seeks to promote joint planning and advocacy with hopes for a united voice of CSOs motivating the implementation of their commitments to women's and children's health.
Participants participated in a mapping of all RMNCH CSOs with a view to involve a wide scope of partners in the coalition. They also identified partners and organized stakeholder meetings which identified key RMNCH issues and advocacy priorities.
The meeting in Washington DC provided an opportunity for exchange of best practices in advocacy efforts, increased information on advocacy tools for resource tracking and advocacy such as national health accounts and Countdown to 2015 processes. Partners also discussed the process for implementing joint efforts identified during the national stakeholder consultations.
