Nigerian Health Minister inaugurates committee to host meeting of PMNCH Board
13 JUNE 2012 | ABUJA, NIGERIA - Health Minister, Prof.C.O.Onyebuchi Chukwu has inaugurated a 13-man Local Organising Committee for the hosting of the 13th Board meeting of the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Partnership (PMNCH) in Nigeria.
Inaugurating the Committee members in Abuja Wednesday, the Minister explained that the PMNCH is a coalition of global health partnership launched in 2005 and brings the three leading maternal, newborn and child health communities into an alliance of almost 300 members.
He said that the Board is the partnership’s governing body and holds decision-making authority in areas of organisational policy, fund mobilisation setting goals and objectives and making medium and long term plans with the view to assisting countries in moving forward the maternal, newborn and child health agenda.
He said that Nigeria accepted to host the 13th Board Meeting of the Committee in October 2012 as an affirmation that she is committed to the Every Woman Every Child Initiative of the UN Secretary General.
The Committee is saddled with the responsibilities to include planning and organising the meeting to actualise Nigeria’s targets on MDGs 4, 5 and 6, advising the Honourable Minister of Health on the best way to ensure the planned Board meeting is held in the most convenient, efficient, effective and memorable manner and also to maximize the advocacy benefit that may accrue from hosting such calibre group of individuals and organisations from different walks of life.
The Committee has Dr.Bridget Okoegule, Head, Family Health Department as the Chairperson, Dr.Mohammad Ado, Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) as Vice-Chairperson and Mrs.Tinu Taylor, PMNCH Focal Person as Secretary.
