Campaign for World Breastfeeding Week inspired Google Doodle

18 APRIL 2012 – World Breastfeeding Week will celebrate its 20th anniversary this summer, and to commemorate the occasion, World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) has started a mini-campaign for a WBW themed Google Doodle.

“Google Doodles,” in the words of the web giant, “are the fun, surprising and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries and the lives of famous artists, pioneers and scientists… Over time, the demand for doodles has risen in the US and internationally. Creating doodles is now the responsibility of a team of talented illlustrators (we call them doodlers) and engineers. For them, creating doodles has become a group effort to enliven the Google homepage and bring smiles to the faces of Google users around the world.”

Google states that the doodle team is always excited to hear from users and they invite people to contact with future Google Doodle ideas.

For anyone interested in supporting this initiative to give the 20th World Breastfeeding Week global visibility on a massive scale, below is a sample letter for sending a request to Google:

"Dear Google Doodle people,

We — the breastfeeding support and promotion community — would be delighted to have a doodle for World Breastfeeding Week, 1-7 August 2012. World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is celebrated every year in over 176 countries around the world.

This year marks the 20th year of WBW celebrations. As such we really hope that you will give this request serious consideration. For more information see: and

Thanks in advance for considering this proposal.

Best regards,"
