African Union Heads of State Summit 2013
19-27 MAY 2013 | ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA
Liberian president to lead African committee on the post-2015 agenda
The 21st Ordinary Session of the Summit of the African Union (AU), themed “Pan Africanism and the African Renaissance”, marked the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the precursor of the AU, and a little more than a decade since the formation of the AU.
African leaders gathered for this historic summit appointed Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to chair a heads of state committee on the post-2015 development agenda. The Committee of Heads of State and Government, which will comprise two heads of state and government per region, has been mandated with sensitising and co-ordinating activities between African leaders and members of the United Nations Secretary General’s High-level Panel on the post-2015 agenda, and with building regional and inter-continental alliances on the African Common Position on the post-2015 agenda.
The committee has also been requested to crystallize and synthesize the African Common Position and ensure that its priorities are integrated in the next global development framework.
