This document is the Executive Summary of the meeting convened by The Partnership and held in New Delhi from 7 to 9 April 2005.
The objectives of the meeting were to raise the profile of MNCH on the international development agenda; strengthen political and financial commitment for MNCH; and forge consensus on actions required to meet Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 & 5 on child and maternal health, including the development and implementation of regional and country-level MNCH plans.
“Lives in the Balance” culminated on April 9 with the creation of a landmark document (The Delhi Declaration) that outlines critical requirements for achieving MDGs 4 & 5. It calls on national governments, the private sector, civil society and international partners to provide political and financial 9 commitments to meet these requirements. This document represents unprecedented consensus on the way forward to improve maternal, newborn and child health on a global scale.
