CONFERENCE: 2010 Women Deliver/Countdown to 2015

7-9 JUNE 2010

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon At Women Deliver

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has proven to be a true ally of maternal health advocates. With only five years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, Mr. Ban has announced the development of a Joint Action Plan for accelerating progress on maternal and newborn health. In keeping with his promise to bring attention and focus to MDGs 4 and 5, Mr. Ban will be speaking to Women Deliver 2010 conference participants.

However women deliver for the world, they need power. Join Arianna Huffington, co-founder of the Huffington Post, Ashley Judd, actress and board member for Population Services International, Helen Clark of UNDP, former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, and Liberian women's leader Leymah Gbowee in a conversation about how highly successful women change-makers have dealt with their power - getting it, keeping it and using it wisely for social change.

Christiane Amanpour has reported the news from all over the world and has interviewed some of the world's more important leaders. At the Women Deliver 2010 conference, Amanpour will moderate a plenary on maternal health. Along with a panel of global health experts, Amanour will discuss how global leaders have succeeded in moving the maternal health agenda forward and what it took to make progress and mobilize will.
