PMNCH Strategic Objective (SO) 3:
Promote accountability for results

PMNCH ACCOUNTABILITY (SO3) ACTIVITIES

Promoting accountability for resources and results, this objective will lead to better information to monitor results for reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health as well as better and more systematic tracking of actual allocation of resource commitments for women’s and children’s health.

Commission on Information and Accountability (COIA) and the independent Expert Review Group (iERG)

PMNCH is using its multi-stakeholder partner platform and advocacy network to ensure that the workplan to implement the recommendations of the Commission is carried forward in collaboration with partners--including Recommendation 10, the work of the independent Expert Review Group (iERG).

PMNCH Reports - Analysing Progress on Commitments to the Global Strategy

In 2011, PMNCH produced the Report on Commitments to the Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health. In November 2011, the iERG requested PMNCH to produce a 2012 Report and to disseminate its findings through its member platform and advocacy network. The PMNCH 2012 Report - Analyzing Progress on Commitments to the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health builds on the first report by also analyzing the scope and content of new commitments, assessing bottlenecks to delivery of commitments, and providing examples of best practices and constraints to accountability for women's and children's health.

RMNCH and Human Rights

Working very closely with United Nations Agencies, the World Health Organization and other PMNCH members, the Partnership has been involved in the development of and follow-up to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) Resolution on Maternal Mortality which was agreed in 2010.

Support to Countdown to 2015 Initiative

Tracking progress of countries towards the achievement of MDGs 4 and 5 is critical to the work done by PMNCH and its members. Key to this undertaking is an initiative which focuses on tracking progress of 68 priority countries which represent 97% of all global maternal and child deaths. The Secretariat of the Countdown to 2015 Initiative is supported by the PMNCH Secretariat in Geneva.
