Professor Peter Allan Cooper is Professor and Academic Head, Department of Paediatrics & Child Health, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and University of the Witwatersrand. He has been either the author or co-author of 72 publications in peer reviewed journals, 7 chapters in books and primary contributor or co-editor of 2 books. Most of these publications have been in the areas of neonatology and nutrition.

Professor Cooper is the Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee of the International Pediatric Association 2013-2016 and the Association representative on the Board of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) 2013-present. He is member of the South African Ministerial Committee on Perinatal Morbidity and Mortality 2008-present.

In addition of being a member of several national and international societies, among which are: Priorities in Perinatal Care Association of Southern Africa - Member of executive committee 1996-2001; South African Paediatric Association - Member of Executive Committee 1996-2000; National Secretary/Treasurer 2001-2004; Union of National African Paediatric Societies and Associations (UNAPSA) – President 2005-2008; and UNAPSA representative on the Standing Committee of the International Pediatric Association 2007-2010.

Professor Cooper was also the Chairperson of the Scientific Committee for the IPC Congress in Johannesburg, South Africa, August 2010; IPALA representative on the Standing Committee and member of the Executive Committee of the International Pediatric Association 2010-2013.
