Focus on patient safety curriculum for medical students

BMJ 2009;339:b3725

An article in the BMJ has profiled the WHO Patient Safety Curriculum Guide for medical students, giving prominence to the importance of training future doctors in the techniques of practising patient safety in all aspects of their work.

The guide is being piloted in ten medical schools throughout the world with each school implementing at least three of the 11 topics included as modules. Early reaction has been positive with the concept of patient safety as a 'core' attitude needing to be introduced early.
