Message from Sir Liam Donaldson
African Partnerships for Patient Safety is a natural progression for WHO Patient Safety, working with people and health-care organizations in countries where collaborative initiatives can flourish and contribute towards greater understanding of what patient safety means.
The building blocks for this new programme have been constructed over several years by WHO Patient Safety. The networks that have developed have enabled contacts to be strengthened as part of creating greater global awareness that safer patient care is a priority.
The enthusiasm with which all partners have embraced the first wave is both encouraging and stimulating, because it is with shared knowledge and learning that we can make a difference and prevent loss of life.
I warmly welcome all partners to this new programme. The contribution everyone makes in sharing their expertise and experiences will form a major part of African Partnerships for Patient Safety.
Sir Liam Donaldson
WHO Envoy for Patient Safety
