UK Symposium on Patient Safety Partnerships

On 26th March, the first UK Symposium on Patient Safety Partnerships was held in Manchester, UK. This free of cost event was open to anyone interested in health partnerships and was well attended by the existing UK APPS partnerships. A wide range of speakers included the APPS England team with Dr Joyce Hightower, APPS Project Manager, Africa delivering the Keynote presentation and Dr Shams Syed, APPS Programme Manager travelling to the UK to participate in the day. Delegates were introduced to POPS (Private Organizations for Patient Safety) a new initiative from WHO Patient Safety and colleagues from International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations (IAPO), THET and the University of Leicester all shared insights on their partnership work and research across Africa and the UK.

The Symposium was attended by over 70 delegates including from Norway and Ireland. The event also provided the opportunity to showcase the newly launched APPS resources. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring together individuals passionate about patient safety and global partnership working and delegates left keen to take their efforts to improve patient safety even further through the power of partnership.
