Organizations in Great Britain endorse the concept of a "WHO Surgical Safety Checklist"
At an event hosted by the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) in the United Kingdom, Royal Colleges, national organizations and associations representing anaesthetists, nurses and surgeons signed to support, in principle, the Safe Surgery Saves Lives initiative, due to be formally launched in Washington, DC, in June this year.
Professor Lord Ara Darzi (Minister of Health), Sir Liam Donaldson (Chief Medical Officer England and Chair of the World Alliance for Patient Safety) and Lord Naren Patel (Chairman of the NPSA), joined Dr Atul Gawande who is leading the safe surgery work for WHO in welcoming the presidents and heads of the organizations endorsing this initiative.
