INSTALLATION OF THE RACSS PACKAGE

When the CD-ROM is inserted the "Installation Utility for RACSS Package" dialog screen will appear.

Read through all options first. 



INSTALLATION OF RACSS for DOS:

Select the installation of the RACSS for DOS package if your computer runs under MS-DOS or Windows 3.1.
If your computer runs under Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT or XP, and you have less than 70 MB free hard disk space you are advised to use RACSS for DOS as well.

Highlight the selected option on the menu and double click (or press <Enter>, or click on the 'Install' button on the toolbar) to start the installation process. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen. You are strongly advised to use the default directories to install these programmes. In case you cannot use these defaults, read the manual to find out how to modify the path references.

A desktop button is automatically created for RACSS for DOS.

To start the programme in MS-DOS, type:
	>CD\
	>CD RACSSDOS
	>RACSS.EXE



INSTALLATION OF RACSS for Windows:

When your computer runs under Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT or XP, and you have at least 70 MB free hard disk space available you are advised to use RACSS for Windows.

Install the various programmes in the sequence at which they are placed in the installation menu.

Highlight the selected option on the menu and double click (or press <Enter>, or click on the 'Install' button on the toolbar) to start the installation process. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen. You are strongly advised to use the default directories to install these programmes. In case you cannot use these defaults, read the manual to find out how to modify the path references.

Desktop buttons are automatically created for Epi-Info2000, Epi-Info 6.04D and RACSS for DOS.

To start RACSS for Windows, double click the Epi-Info2000 shortcut button. Then click on the button "RACSS using EpiData".




MANUALS:

After the installation of the RACSS package is completed, you can copy the manuals to your computer.
Double click on 'Copy Manuals', select the target directory on your computer and all files will be copied.

RACSSWIN Manual 1.02.DOC: The RACSS Manual for DOS (version 1.02) in Ms-Word '97 format.

RACSSWIN Manual 2.02.DOC: The RACSS Manual for Windows (version 2.02) in Ms-Word '97 format.

SURVEY FORM.DOC: The survey form in Ms-Word '97 format. This can be translated into the local language.
                 Do NOT change the layout, because the computer screen looks similar and variations may 
                 cause data entry errors.

INSTRUCT.DOC: Part of the Manual, with instructions for surveyors. This may be translated and/or                                         distributed to the field staff.

CODING.DOC: Part of the Manual, with coding instructions. This may be translated and/or distributed
            to the field staff.





CREATE INSTALLATION DISKETTES:

To facilitate installation of RACSS for DOS on a computer without a CD-ROM drive, you can use the option "Create Installation Diskettes". Double click on each of the options mentioned to copy the installation files to four diskettes. 
Insert the Epi-Info 6.04D disk 1/3 first. Select the diskette drive and type "INSTALL.EXE". Follow the instructions on your screen.

To install the RACSSDOS files, first create a directory C:\RACSSDOS with subdirectory C:\RACSSDOS\DATA:
	>CD\
	>MD RACSSDOS
	>CD RACSSDOS
	>MD DATA

Then go to the diskette drive, say A:\

	>CD A:
	>Copy *.* C:\RACSSDOS
	>CD DATA
	>copy *.* C:\RACSSDOS\DATA

This will complete the installation.
