This issue of WHO DRUG INFORMATION opens with the ICDRA Recommendations proposed by drug regulators during the 12th International Conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities in Seoul, Republic of Korea in April 2006.
Two feature articles focus on the contribution and particular relevance of the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines to industrialized countries. The first, by comparing the Model List with a Regional Formulary and the second, by showing how the Model List can be instrumental in improving quality of care.
The section on Safety and Efficacy gives the latest information on signals and reports of adverse drug reactions, with other news from around the world, including labeling changes. This is complemented by Regulatory Action and News which provides the most recent decisions from regulatory authorities, and particularly those having an impact on decision-taking.
There is also a focus on transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, through publication of tissue infectivity tables and precautionary measures to be taken to assure that blood and blood products are protected from these infectious agents.
International Pharmacopoeia monographs for antimalarials and antiretrovirals continue to be developed and are proposed for comment.
Several informational documents and events are reviewed and the journal concludes with the latest Anatomical, Therapeutic, Chemical (ATC) and International Nonproprietary Name (INN) lists.
