The 69th World Health Assembly elected Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Saidi, Minister of Health of Oman as its new President. Five vice-presidents were also appointed from Armenia, Chad, Malaysia, Panama and Timor-Leste.

In addition to the Plenary, Committees A and B, and technical briefings every year there are many additional meetings held at the World Health Assembly. In this meeting, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa, at the meeting on the "Launch of ESPEN - Expanded Special Project for the Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases in Africa”.
Dr Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General welcomes Jamie Oliver, British celebrity chef, before a meeting on “Accelerating national progress on tackling child obesity and child under-nutrition in a sustainable way”.
Some 3500 delegates from WHO’s 194 Member States – including a large proportion of the world’s health ministers - are attending the Health Assembly, which ends on 28 May.
