Maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health

Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly

The Sixty-sixth session of the World Health Assembly will take place in Geneva during 20–28 May 2013.

Several issues in relation to maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health will be discussed.

The adoption of the resolution on “Implementation of the Recommendations on Life-saving Commodities for Women and Children.” This resolution was discussed at the WHA Executive Board, where it had been co-sponsored by four countries (Libya, Nigeria, Norway, and the United States), and it received great support. The resolution asks specific action by countries and by WHO Director-General, including to report annually until 2015 to the World Health Assembly on the progress achieved in the follow-up recommendation of the Commission on Life Saving Commodities for Women and Children.

One year after the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) was adopted by the World Health Assembly, Member States at the 66th World Health Assembly will be reviewing the status of progress made towards achieving the goals of the Decade of Vaccines and the proposed GVAP framework for monitoring, evaluation and accountability.

In addition, several side events are planned on status of progress towards the MDG 4 and 5 and the new initiatives for ending preventable maternal and child death.
