Overview

This brief document refers to situations in which severe food shortages threaten the nutritional status of communities causing malnutrition among affected populations including micronutrient deficiencies. Such deficiencies can inhibit intellectual and physical potential and cause lifelong disability. It contains key public mental health interventions, psychosocial support, and nutritional interventions that can be instituted in situations of severe food shortages to facilitate caregiver- child relations and prevent developmental delays and mental disorders.
