Consultation on improving measurement of the quality of maternal, newborn and child care in health facilities
Coverage of key interventions in maternal, newborn and child health have increased over the past decade. However, progress in improving health outcomes for mothers and children has been slower in comparison. Major gaps exist between coverage and the quality of care provided in health facilities. Unlike coverage rates, quality of care provided to mothers, newborns and children in health facilities is not routinely measured and reported.
In December 2013, WHO and PMNCH convened a consultation on “Improving measurement of the quality of maternal, newborn and child care in health facilities”. This report provides information about the meeting and the proposed 19 core indicators for reporting on quality of MNCH care in facilities.
