Informal consultation on quality control of malaria microscopy (archived)
In April 2005, the WHO regional offices for South-East Asia and for the Western Pacific held a biregional workshop on quality assurance for malaria microscopy in Kuala Lumpur. The workshop was held to review various issues concerning microscopy quality assurance. Among others, it recommended that the WHO basic malaria microscopy training manuals and the related malaria microscopy bench aids should be reviewed and updated, with field-testing of draft materials before finalization.
To implement the recommendations of the workshop, WHO convened a 1-day consultation on microscopy accreditation, slide validation methods and training materials. A subgroup of participants who attended the Kuala Lumpur workshop and other key experts in the field convened on 3 March 2006 in Geneva to provide guidance on unresolved issues.
