11 December 2013 -- WHO launched the latest World Malaria Report at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The report summarizes information received from malaria-endemic countries and other sources, and updates the analyses presented in the 2012 report.
11 December 2013 -- Read a feature article about a project run by the WHO Global Malaria Programme with a grant from the Government of Canada, seeking to reduce under-five deaths in remote areas of five countries in Africa.
5 December 2013 -- The meeting report presents the conclusions of the first country consultation on the development of the Global Technical Strategy for Malaria Control and Elimination 2016-2025, held in Geneva on 14-15 October.
4 December 2013 – The manual, comprised of a guide for tutors and a guide for participants, has been developed to support health professionals in the planning, implementation and evaluation of malaria control activities.
21 November 2013 -- The report reviews evidence and operational experiences regarding the correct management of febrile illnesses in primary health care facilities and at the community level, and considers existing WHO guidance and priority research.
20 November 2013 -- The fifth case study in the Eliminating malaria series focuses on Turkey. The report has been launched at the 2013 annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, in Washington, DC.

29 October 2013 -- This report contains the latest assessment of insecticidal compounds and malaria vector control products under WHOPES review, as well as related recommendations. An updated list of WHO recommended long-lasting insecticidal nets is also available.
17 October 2013 – The handbook provides policy-makers, planners and field coordinators with practical advice on designing and implementing effective malaria control responses in humanitarian emergencies.
11 October 2013 -- During the annual East Asia Summit in Brunei, 18 leaders endorsed the creation of an Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (APLMA). The key objectives are to reduce the disease burden and to contain the spread of artemisinin-resistant malaria.
9 October 2013 -- WHO's global campaign will focus on vector-borne diseases, including malaria. It will raise awareness about the threat posed by disease vectors and urge families and communities to take action to protect themselves.
9 October 2013 -- Following a review meeting and a consultation with co-chairs of the WHO Technical Expert Group on Malaria Chemotherapy, WHO issued an information note urging the continued use of injectable artesunate to treat severe malaria.
8 October 2013 -- WHO has published an updated Q&A about RTS,S/AS01, a malaria vaccine being developed through a partnership between GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals and the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative.
26 September 2013 -- Following the latest meeting of the Malaria Policy Advisory Committee, WHO issued a recommendation on achieving universal coverage with LLINs, a guidance note on capacity building for entomology and vector control, and another for estimating the longevity of long-lasting insecticidal nets.
20 September 2013 -- Summary versions of the World Malaria Report 2012 are now available in electronic and printed format in English, French and Spanish. The summaries present the 16 key points to be drawn from the Report, illustrated with figures and maps.
30 August 2013 -- The handbook, entitled La prise en charge du paludisme grave – guide pratique. Troisième édition, provides new and revised practical guidance on the diagnosis and management of severe malaria.
7 August 2013 -- The WHO Global Malaria Programme has released a new publication to support and facilitate the implementation of seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC). SMC is recommended in areas of highly seasonal malaria transmission throughout the Sahel sub-region of Africa.
18 July 2013 -- At the Special Summit of the African Union on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, five organizations announced the establishment of a joint intelligence gathering unit to deliver urgent strategic support to the 10 African countries with the highest malaria burden.

28 May 2013 -- WHO’s detailed progress report on implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution 66/289 is available in six official languages. The report reviews progress against 2015 global targets and makes a set of recommendations to Member States.
28 May 2013 -- During the Sixty-sixth session of the World Health Assembly (20-28 May 2013), delegates noted the Secretariat’s report on progress in implementation of resolution WHA64.17 and on global efforts to control and eliminate malaria.
25 April 2013 -- A new mapping tool – created in collaboration with the Medicines for Malaria Venture – is now available online, allowing users to create customized maps using data from WHO’s World Malaria Report.
23 April 2013 -- The WHO Global Malaria Programme has released a new operational manual on indoor residual spraying (IRS). The manual will help national malaria control programmes and technical partners to design, implement and maintain high-quality IRS programmes.
18 April 2013 -- The WHO Global Malaria Programme is inviting letters of interest for grants under the Rapid Access Expansion (RAcE) 2015 Programme to strengthen integrated community case management of malaria, pneumonia and diarrhoea in children in Nigeria’s Niger and Abia States. The deadline to submit proposals has been extended from 6 May to 13 May 2013.
15 April 2013 -- The third edition of Management of Severe Malaria – A Practical Handbook provides new and revised guidance on the diagnosis and management of severe malaria, a condition most commonly caused by infection with P. falciparum malaria.
12 April 2013 -- The WHO Global Malaria Programme has updated the lists containing the positions of manufacturing companies and national regulatory authorities on the production and marketing of oral artemisinin-based monotherapies.
8 April 2013 -- WHO’s malaria pages have been restructured and updated to allow users easier access to the organization’s policy guidance on malaria. New features include expanded content on all technical areas and an improved search function.

11 January 2013 -- The WHO Global Malaria Programme is inviting proposals for the monitoring and evaluation of activities carried out by grantees of the Rapid Access Expansion (RAcE) 2015 project in five African countries.
3 January 2013 -- The WHO Global Malaria Programme is saddened to hear of the passing of a former colleague and friend, Dr Peter F. Beales. Dr Beales devoted his life to improving the health of people in developing countries. He joined the World Health Organization in 1956.
