Model ordinance for Smoke-Free Workplace and public place
A common request of those developing smoke-free legislation is, “Do you have an example or model we can use?” There are no perfectly drafted smoke-free laws and ordinances that can be used as simple models. Or they include best practice language for some things while omitting other key elements. This is true even in those jurisdictions commonly cited as best practice examples.
The document draws on the best elements of laws from many jurisdictions, and from the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Guidelines on implementation of Article 8. It offers clear language as a starting point for municipalities to work with.
