3-Seminar: Responding to Health Emergencies in the Western Pacific Region (20mns)

In the Western Pacific, a region subject to more disasters than anywhere else in the world, WHO works with Member States on emergency preparation as well as support for disaster response. Based on recent experience, we have found a need for more in-depth preparation as well as stronger coordination mechanisms. In this lecture, Dr Pesigan looks at the challenges faced by the Western Pacific Region, ways to address them and gives his outlook for the future of health risk management.

4-Seminar: WHO Risk Management: Infectious Diseases Control
- Dr Tamano Matsui, Medical Officer, Emerging Disease Surveillance and Response, WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific

With development of the international transportation network, infectious diseases spread easily across borders. In the Western Pacific Region, some 200 outbreaks with the potential to pose an international threat occur every year. In this presentation, Dr Matsui explains the basics of WHO risk management, the basis for tackling infectious diseases, with reference to past outbreaks.
